Getting into UX is harder than it should be

You've done the courses. You've watched the YouTube videos. Maybe you even finished a bootcamp. But you're still not getting hired.

Your portfolio doesn't get responses. Your interviews stall after the first round. And you're not sure what you're doing wrong because nobody gives you honest feedback.

Or maybe you already have a UX job, but you feel stuck. You're not growing. You don't have anyone senior to turn to when things get difficult.

  • You're second-guessing your design decisions.
  • You don't know how to talk to stakeholders.
  • You're unsure what "good enough" looks like.
  • You feel like everyone else has it figured out except you.

You don't need another course. You need someone in your corner who's done this before and can tell you exactly what to fix.

What my clients say

I went through the last stage in the hiring processes at multiple companies and got an offer. Before working with Nick, I couldn't get further than the first interview. Working with Nick has been the most clearly helpful thing I've ever done to boost my career.

When I started my sessions with Nick, I was like a fish out of water as I was transitioning into UX design. Our mentorship has become an integral part of my journey and I owe a tremendous amount of credit to Nick for challenging me and constantly reminding me to think outside the box.

When you work with Nick, there is no cookie-cutter copy-and-paste formula, as he works with your specific design challenges. He has ample experience in UX, working with a wide range of businesses, which was instrumental in helping me.

Frequently asked questions

I offer several ways to help you achieve your goals as a UX designer:

  • Free intro call: We'll discuss your goals and challenges to figure out how I can best help.
  • Super Workshop: A 90-minute deep dive to get unstuck on a specific design or career challenge.
  • Coaching Package: Multiple sessions over time covering portfolio, resume, interviews, and on-the-job support.
  • Quick Help Session: A paid 30-minute call when you need immediate advice and can't wait for a free slot.

Having a mentor can be the difference between success and failure. Naturally, this also applies to UX designers.

Mentors are a few steps ahead of you in their careers. Yet, they have been in your position recently enough to be able to help you make that next step.

Someone who works as a UX mentor will help you become a UX designer, support you in finding a job, and much more.

What a UX mentor can do for you is up to you. You have your goals and challenges that you need to tackle. Good mentors know this and support you in doing so.

Usually, someone who works as a mentor has years of working experience from multiple companies, clients, and industries. So the current challenges you're facing are challenges that this person already conquered. Because of this, they can share how they did it in a way that will help you do the same.

It depends on what you need:

  • Free intro call: Always free. This is where every coaching journey starts.
  • Super Workshop: A 90-minute deep-dive session. Pricing discussed during your intro call.
  • Coaching Package: Multiple sessions over time. Pricing discussed during your intro call based on the number of sessions and timeframe.
  • Quick Help Session: €49 for a 30-minute video call. No intro call needed.

Yes! Every coaching journey starts with a free intro call. We'll discuss your goals and challenges to figure out which coaching option is the best fit.

Free call slots are available in limited numbers. If you need help right away and can't wait for a free slot, you can book a paid Quick Help Session instead.

The big difference between joining a UX bootcamp and working with a UX coach is that you get one-on-one focus during coaching sessions.

In class, teachers have to divide their attention among all students. If you require a little more time or have some extra questions, you might fall behind and leave those questions unanswered.

With a UX coach, you can ask any question you have at your own pace. No questions will remain unanswered.

Having a UX coach is like having a teacher who focuses entirely on you, your career, goals, and questions. You can ask anything and take as long as needed.

The added value of UX coaching is higher if you prepare your meetings well. If you prepare well, I can prepare well. That's a clear win-win!

Here are a few topics and questions you can bring to a coaching session:

  • Can you review my UX portfolio? Always include the link to your portfolio and one or more specific questions you might have.
  • What challenges might I encounter in finding my first job as a UX designer?
  • How do I measure success as a designer?
  • Here's what I've done so far. What went well, and how can I do better the next time?

I wrote a full list of questions to ask your UX mentor to help you with more examples.

I encourage you to come up with a list beforehand. It will help get you the most value from your sessions.

Not sure where to start? That's what the intro call is for.

Tell me where you are and where you want to be. We'll figure out the rest together.
